Love Triumphant

The messenger of love's delight,
Who comes by day and steals by night,
O'er fortress walls hewn by hand
From porous bricks sewn of sand --

Speaking lines from scriptures flowing fluent,
Arresting once more a heart turned truant,
Till enchantment of nymphly spell,
Grants me sanctuary from spectral knell:

Guardian absent, once you were
to some other plain you deferred,
Till her beacon bade you home,
Calling you from realms you roamed.

Xenos chore: The guest I spurned,
Xenos core: From host I turned,
Till fortress gates became killing ground,
Churning moat: the grave of soldiers drowned.

Castle Mordred, the citadel grim,
Where ruthless ruled and hope was dim,
Behind portcullis barred from ambuscade,
Against siege engines pounding stone facade.

Lady fair, your beauty came,
On flowing air, with burning flame,
O'er fortress walls like arrow's flight,
To pierce my heart in spell of night:

I worship thee, oh goddess born,
Immortal astride bless'd unicorn --
Aphrodite hath no comparison to thee,
Nor any other goddess from earth or sea.

With trembling hands, I turn the wheel,
To raise the gates on iron reel,
Receiving freely those messengers left,
And grieve for those whom life bereft.

Love's ecstasy, lei triumphant,
Lofting embers long recumbent
From warmthless hearth where love forgotten,
Had but turned to dust, verily rotten:

Wave thy banner, conquering queen,
Hold aloft thy emblem's mean;
Let thy musicians do their deed,
And to this, I shall concede:

The siege is done, the signals raised,
Surrender I my fortress praised,
And freely give my store to thee,
To feast upon in victory.
